Welcome to the NCEF Active Ageing Specialist Module e-learning website. This Module is provided by the National Council for Exercise and Fitness (NCEF)
and accredited by the University of Limerick.

This website will provide you a range a different learning activities and resources designed to enhance your theoretical knowledge and practical skills in the area of active ageing for the older adult. We hope you find this module informative, challenging and enjoyable!

Recognition: 15 credits towards the Bsc Degree in Exercise & Health Fitness (BSc).  The BSc. is awarded by the University of Limerick and is placed at Level 8 on the National Qualifications Framework (NQF) and Level 7 on the European Qualifications Framework (EQF).

Aim of the Module:

To provide course participants with the skills, knowledge and competencies to design group exercise classes and prescribe progressive exercise programmes suitable for independent older adults of varying levels of fitness in a gym, leisure centre or community environment.

Module Learning Outcomes

At the end of this Module you be able to:

Understand the effects of ageing on health and physiology and the increasing risk of developing non-communicable disease (NCD) e.g. cardiovascular disease, osteoporosis etc, including Alzheimer’s disease and Parkinson’s disease.  Read more
